One-Day Executive Education Program
Managing your money wisely is critical for financial success.
The purpose of Investments 101 is to introduce you to important aspects of investments and finance that you need to know to manage your money. Topics include valuation, risk and reward, capital markets, stock and bond investments, and understanding mutual funds.
You will learn how to use a financial calculator (HP10BII is preferred), calculate mortgage payments and understand how mortgage rates are quoted. We will have interactive computer exercises on mutual fund companies (e.g., Fidelity) and you will learn how to calculate the total returns (price and income) for portfolios. Come learn from a dedicated investor and professor in an atmosphere of like-minded professionals!
This interactive program is designed for participants to learn the fundamentals of investments. In learning the jargon, performance and risk of different asset types, you will have the foundation to manage your money for the rest of your life. This program provides a solid foundation and introduction of investments and the tools for practical application in the real world. Your instructor has managed money as a fiduciary for pension funds and individuals for thirty years. And he has taught these topics at San Francisco State University over the last thirty years.

Who Should Attend
Our session is for everyone to help manage his or her finances. You will learn how to use a calculator to verify performance figures (total returns) for your retirement and individual portfolios. You will be able to calculate mortgage payments and when to refinance.

Faculty
Herb Meiberger, CFA
Herb Meiberger, CFA®, is a lecturer of Finance at San Francisco State University College of Business and has taught courses in corporate finance and investments since 1982. Concurrently, from 1992 to 2017, he was elected to five consecutive terms as a Board Member of the City and County of San Francisco’s Employees’ Retirement System. Mr. Meiberger served as Chairman of the Investment Committee and Chairman of the ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) Committee. Mr. Meiberger is a principal of Berkeley Investment Advisors, and manages retirement accounts and trust funds for individuals. Mr. Meiberger holds a B.S. in mathematics and chemistry from the University of South Dakota, an M.B.A. in finance from the University of California at Berkeley, and is a chartered financial analyst (CFA®).
