John Logan, Program Director and Professor of Labor and Employment Studies at San Francisco State University, was quoted in The Korea Herald about how humanoid robots and automation could affect workers and unions in the U.S. auto industry.

The article looks at Hyundai Motor Group’s plan to begin using Atlas humanoid robots at its Georgia plant in 2028. Logan explained that workers at nonunion auto plants in the U.S. South can face challenges when trying to organize because unions have a smaller presence in the region and can face strong opposition.

Logan also explained that as more robots are introduced into manufacturing, concerns about job security and the impact of automation could become more important for workers and future union organizing efforts.
